David Roddy plays college basketball for the Colorado State Rams in the Mountain West Conference. Roddy was a top football and basketball player at Breck High School before committing to play at Colorado State. He chose basketball over football. At the time I thought Roddy was on his path for football for sure.
Listed at six-foot-five-inches and 252 pounds, Roddy would be large quarterback (High School position) or a versatile tight end. Roddy however chose basketball, and in 3 years at Colorado State he is really stepped it up in his Junior Year.
Roddy has been a solid contributor in his first 2 years for the Rams, improving each year. As Freshman, he started 19 games, averaged 11.9 points per game. As a sophomore he started 27 games and increased his scoring 15.9 points a game.
This season Roddy has taken his game to another level and is off to terrific start leading Colorado State to a 6-0 record while averaging 24.2 ppg and 8.2 rebounds, both team highs. In a win vs Creighton he scored 36 points besting his season high by 6 points from the game before vs Bradley when he scored 30.
His biggest improvement so far has been 3-point shooting. In 2020-21 Roddy shot 27.8% from 3 while 2021-22 he’s shooting an outstanding 47.8%. While that improvement may not hold, his consistency on the boards keeps him on the floor for long stretches (9.4 per 2020-21, 8.2 2021-22).
